I think I annoyed a few drivers yesterday. I drove past them, as they sat waiting in neat rows behind a car parked at the petrol pump on the left, and I drove and parked by the right hand petrol pump; one of four right hand pumps that were all free. Just to be clear, that meant that the pump was then on my left and my petrol cap is on the right of my car.
But this isn't a problem. And I must be the only person that knows this.
I tried not to look too smug as I pulled the petrol hose out, and kept pulling, as most petrol stations now have long reach hoses. I nearly embarrassed myself, as I hadn't parked particularly closely to the pump, so it nearly didn't reach, but luckily it was fine, and I filled up without having to queue.
Why don't you use pumps on both sides? Do you not know?
After an armpit clenching long hose FAIL (it wasn't long and I looked like a twat and it was raining), I now don't risk it. Plus my car is a massive seven seater bus affair and I'm not convinced even the long hoses fit.
ReplyDeleteSorry.
Oh I am sorry to hear that. Seven Seaters' do present an extra challenge! :-) as you can't rest the hose over the boot either. So I will understand why you'd stick with the 'correct side'. I still don't understand why Mini's don't 'mix it up' though!
DeleteI always use either side too. But then I do have a tiny Corsa, so not normally a problem (at least I haven't encountered it yet!) If they were annoyed then surely it should be annoyance at the fact there was a queue rather than at you for doing what you were able to do?
ReplyDeleteHurrah! Thank you. To be honest I think they were perhaps more annoyed at themselves... For not thinking! I did get a couple of 'glares' though.
DeleteI always use either side. It just seems logical to me! The hoses aren't short and it is just common sense. The amount of times I am screaming at drivers who are blocking the petrol pump court so that they can get the pump on the correct side!!!! It is so irritating! I am with you Yummy Mummy! I have done the same thing when you see loads queuing and there are pumps free. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amanda! Join our club! It's very annoying when the large queue then blocks access to free pumps. I grumble a lot then!
DeleteI always use to do that as well and never understood why other people would queue. We now have a 7 seater and I have never tried but I take in the tips from Justsomestuffaboutus and I won't try, my car is pretty massive too, feels like a mini van so sorry but it won't be for me either, at least until the kids grow up and don't need car seats.
ReplyDeleteMe & The Boys
All those with 7 seater mini buses are officially 'let off' then! ;-)
Deleteso you are the ones that damage the nozzels they become bent and keep clicking off, they are not there to be stretched and you increase the cause of over spill, which then increases the likely hood of a motorcyclist sliding whn they come in to fill after you.
